Judy was born on April 14, 1933 to Jack and Bernice (Nee Hoffman) Stemper. The family, including her younger brother David, made their home on the south side of Milwaukee. Judy walked to the neighborhood school with her friends, and begrudgingly, with her little brother in tow. There were frequent visits to the home by grandparents and often the group could be found having brunch at Kagel's restaurant just up the street. But the best and most memorable times were spent at her grandparents' summer cottage on Waubeesee Lake with all the family and their beloved dogs.
Judy went to Divine Savior High School and then on to Mount Mary College where she received a degree in Occupational Therapy. She ended her therapy career after spending 29 years at St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee.
Judy and DIck met on a blind date when each was on a different date. Dick tells the story that the other guy was driving and the car broke down after the date. Dick offered to get Judy safely home and he did. But how? And what happened to the original date? We'll never know because that blind date was the start of a very long courtship which after 17 years finally ended in marriage on 6/17/1978.
Judy and Dick bought the summer cottage on Waubeesee Lake, razed it and with the help of their friend Phil, built a beautiful, new permanent home in which they lived with Judy's mom, Bernice and of course always a dog.
They both were UW-Extension Master Gardeners and created a beautiful setting at the lake home with various plants, flowers and vegetables. They hosted many parties and gourmet meals at the house no matter the season. They both were avid golfers, skiers, and tennis players. But most of all, they enjoyed traveling to all parts of the world. Judy took many photos and they both loved sharing those photos, stories and memories with their friends and family.
