Anne Evans, 87, of Hingham, MA, formerly of Mashpee, MA and Hilton Head, SC, passed away peacefully on August 22. Devoted mother of John Evans & his wife Julie, and Laura Stone. Dear grandmother to her five grandchildren Bryan, Rebecca, Kelly, Sophie and Jackson. Her husband Sam Evans predeceased her 9 years ago. She is survived by her sister Susan Guber. She was a thoughtful and loving mother, grandmother, friend and a social worker to many.
Born in Brookline, MA, Anne graduated from Syracuse University and received her Masters degree in Social Work from Simmons College. For many years she worked at West Ros Park Mental Health Center providing support to both the community and Jesuits who served the area. In addition to her own private practice, Anne authored, A Woman Ahead of Her Time: Maida Herman Solomon, Mental Health Visionary, a biography about her beloved mentor and teacher.
She enjoyed volunteering and was active in her community, including teaching English as a second language, issues of justice and inclusion, and supported young Linden Pond staff members. She was a lifelong learner including tap dance, calligraphy, knitting, bass guitar to name a few. She was always an avid reader, regal dresser and did the Sunday crossword puzzle in pen. She was so proud of her family and was always willing to share a story of pride. We are saddened by her loss and grateful for having her in our lives.
Funeral services are private. A celebration-of-life gathering will be held on Tuesday, August 24 at 3 PM at Linden Ponds. In-person Shiv’ah will be held from 2:00-6:00pm at her daughter’s residence on August 25.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the ACLU (action.aclu.org).
