I was Ava’s childhood friend on Ogontz Ave in Phila. PA.   Ava called me Toody, my nickname.   We played over each other’s house many times.   I reconnected with her several years ago and sent her a picture of us as children.  My apologies for sending my condolences so late to her wife and family.  I just recently heard of her passing through the internet.  I have good memories of Ava and her family including her brother Ira who was in my 6th grade class at Pennell Elementary School.  I hope they remember  me.  Again, my sincere condolences.

Dear Ava:  I recently learned of your passing, and I am deeply saddened.  When I met you in 1984,  I was a young graduate counseling psychology student at Lesley.  During those four years of your nurturing, mentorship, empathy and compassion, you changed my life.   I became a better therapist and went on for my doctorate in the field.  May your loving spirit always be close to Teri and those who deeply love you. After all of these years, I continue to remember you, and I always will.    Light and love to you, Teri and to your loved ones.

Dear Ava,
I think of you every day and miss you every day. There is so much that is unfair in life and you passing this early is at the top of the list. You were truly one of the greats- the kindest, wisest, most compassionate person I ever met. You know you have a great therapist when she keeps the session or phone call going longer than you do! I still have your emails and voice mails which I read and listen to when I want more than just your presence on my shoulder. I feel very lucky to have you with me, even now that you're gone, and I continue to benefit from your wisdom and humor. I miss you Ava...Ann

I am deeply saddened to hear of Ava's passing.  She and I were young together many, many years ago in Philadelphia and in Nova Scotia.  A wonderfully creative spirit, caring and giving. Such profound sorrow, dear Ava, when I learned of your passing. I can only hope that you knew how deeply grateful I was and am to have known you. You helped me find grace, strength and confidence in times of doubt. I have written thank you letters to you many times over in my head, and regret that I didn't put pen to paper. But I know that you, never judging, always generous, knew what was in my heart. I am such a better person for having known you, and owe so much to you. I can only aspire to live with the integrity and authenticity which you did. It is too sad that you left this world too soon, but what an incredible impact you had.

I am so very sad to hear of Ava's death. She changed my life and I am glad I told her so and that she knew.

Dear Teri, although I felt a profound sadness when I learned of Ava's passing, my constant memory of her has us sitting around the room, playing Balderdash and laughing till tears came down our cheeks. So often, it was Ava's long-winded definitions that caused these reactions. She brought such joy!  The other memory that I hold on to, and which meant so much, was her amazing ability to be young enough to completely relate to Armando, Celin and Corinne, yet old enough for them to trust her wisdom. We will miss her presence.. I will miss the sound of her laughter.  

May you, sweet Teri, feel comfort in love of family and friends, but  always know that Ava's love for you is never ending.  She is now in the air you breathe, in the rain that refreshes you and in the sun's light that warms you.

Dear Ava,

Words cannot truly express our thoughts and feelings and how much we will miss you.   Your wisdom, love, insights and feistiness were such a gift to us all.

We feel so fortunate to have had your presence in our lives--your exuberance for life and all it's complexities was extraordinary and the love and compassion you brought to our daily interactions always left us feeling special and loved!

and such heartfelt compassion.  Your eyes and ears and your fully attendant senses perceived so much of life's expanse.
