Barbara (Rubin) Green, 93, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, in Wayland, Massachusetts. Born on November 21, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, to Mabel and Charles Rubin, Barbara lived a full and vibrant life marked by deep curiosity, a love of nature, and an enduring commitment to education.
Barbara adored her older sisters Kay and Ruth. She grew up in Newton, Massachusetts where she made lifelong friends, including her in-law Betty Green. She began her academic career at Mount Holyoke College, and after marriage and four children, earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wheaton College, in Norton, Massachusetts. Her dedication to learning and helping others led her to a fulfilling career as a special education teacher. Later, she served as a reading training consultant, sharing her expertise and passion for literacy with educators and students.
Throughout her life, Barbara was known for her vivacious spirit and zest for living. She found joy in the natural world—marveling at the moon, sun, stars, and flowers. She was a world traveler and loved the outdoors, especially when on her skis and at the golf course. Nature came to her doorstep every summer eve as the fog rolled in at Katama on Martha's Vineyard. Reading remained one of her pleasures, offering both solace and inspiration. Barbara and her husband Jim raised their family in Brockton, Massachusetts.
She was deeply devoted to her family, and is lovingly remembered by her children: Deborah Green (Tony Green), David Green (Frankie Chacon), and Amy Green. She also leaves behind three cherished grandsons: Samuel Green, Matthew Green, and Benjamin Green. She was predeceased by her beloved husband James Green, her partner Peter Voudouris, and her son John Green.
Barbara was a mother to her many nieces and nephews, and every child in our neighborhood. Her legacy lives on in all the lives she touched.
