

Betsy (Gropper) Buchbinder, of Milton, entered into rest on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the age of 96. She was the beloved wife of the late Saul Buchbinder for 63 years, and the loving mother of Mark Buchbinder, Diane Piper and her husband Gordon Piper, Joan Buchbinder and her husband Jeffrey Lesse. She was the proud grandmother of Harlan Piper and his wife Aubrey Huynh, Benjamin Piper and his wife Elizabeth Lilley, Alison Buchbinder and her husband Jer Ming Chia, and Lauren Buchbinder. She was the great-grandmother of Gabriel, Benjamin, Samuel, and Saul.
Betsy was a perpetual student getting multiple bachelor’s degrees from Boston State College and Northeastern University as well as a Master of Education from Boston State College. She was a very popular and well-loved teacher at Tucker elementary school in Milton for over 25 years. Betsy was particularly interested in advancing gifted education and founded MA/AIP, the Massachusetts Association for the Advancement of Individual Potential, now known as MAGE, Massachusetts Association for Gifted Education.
After retiring from her teaching career, Betsy received a certification in Gerontology from UMass/Boston to assist seniors living in her community. She served on numerous community boards including the Milton Council of Aging and the Milton Residence for the Elderly. As a resident of Fuller Village in Milton, she organized numerous educational activities including the Caring Committee and the Lifelong Learning Program. Betsy was a long time Milton Town Meeting Member. Over the years, Betsy received numerous awards and honors for her many years of dedicated public service.
Funeral will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel , Canton MA. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park in Sharon, MA. Shiva will be held at Fuller Village following the interment through 4:00 PM. Shiva will continue Monday evening at Fuller Village from 6:30 – 8:00 PM, as well as Tuesday, December 23, from 6:30-8:00 PM also at Fuller Village. Minyan each evening will be at 7:30 PM.
