
Dr. Burton Paul Hoffman, a retired orthopedic surgeon who practiced in White Plains, NY, died peacefully on December 14, 2015, two days before his 96th birthday. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he did his medical training at NYU and Joint Diseases Hospital. Throughout his professional life, he resided in Scarsdale, NY. He was married for 50 years to Betty Kornfeld of Philadelphia, PA. They had three sons: Jeffrey, residing in Boston, MA; Robert, residing in Berkeley, CA; and David, residing in Wellesley, MA. After Betty's death in 1992, he married Carolyn Laev Kagan, of Milwaukee, WI. During most of the 20 years prior to Carolyn's death, they resided in Milwaukee. He spent his last years in Boston. Burt Hoffman was an active runner, skier, sailor, mountaineer and golfer who loved to travel all over the world. Physically fit throughout his life, he completed the New York Marathon at age 70. Besides his three sons, he is survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Sharon Gardens in the Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY on January 3, 2016. Remembrance notes are requested in lieu of flowers.
