David Scott Greene, 51, of Maynard, MA, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. Born September 29, 1964 in New Bedford, MA, David was the devoted husband and partner to Patricia (Perry) Klein Greene, loving son of Dr. Robert J. & Dr. Barbara (Bassin) Greene of Brookline, MA (previously, New Bedford, MA), and loving stepfather of Marc & Sabrina Piche. He was the brother of Stephen & Suzanne Greene, Kenneth & Rachel Greene, Karen & Fred Shackford, Linda & Tom Ortwein, and Steven Milender. Loving brother-in-law to Donna Klein Erdman, David S. Klein, and Sr. M. Mira, M.C. Loving uncle to many nieces, nephews and great niece and nephew.
He graduated from Friends Academy in Dartmouth, Concord Academy, then attended Syracuse University, and earned a B.B.A. from the Harvard Extension School. David enjoyed a successful career in software training and implementation over two decades, with great acclaim from his students and colleagues. He loved the nuances and complexities of the English language, and tried to get others to love it too, though not always successfully. He was a gifted, beautiful and passionate writer and blogger, having written articles for Pet Connection and other websites.
David was known by all he encountered for his iconic, sardonic sense of humor. David was a lifelong sports fan and walking sports encyclopedia, particularly loving the Boston Red Sox and Syracuse Orangemen. He was an avid sailing enthusiast and a student of history.
David was endlessly curious, and loved life, travel, (Paris, Hawaii, New Orleans, San Francisco), fine cuisine (as well as bacon, dark chocolate covered strawberries, and his secret home blend of coffee), and blogging about his love of pets and many other topics on Blah Blah Ginger.
He stood on top of Diamond Head, on top of the Eiffel Tower, and in the Oval Office. He was a loyal liberal democrat, passionate about people and the ideals he identified with. He interned on Capitol Hill for Congressman Barney Frank, and assisted with the establishment of the AmeriCorps National Service program during the first Clinton Administration. He hated blue cheese, cilantro, and small minded ignorance.
David touched many lives and during his recent illness received many tributes and accolades from the many people he had helped and whose lives he had impacted.
David’s funeral and celebration of his life will take place Friday, January 29, 2016 at 9:30 am at the Levine Chapel, 470 Harvard St, Brookline, MA, followed by interment at Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon, MA. All are invited to 1501 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA after the services for a shiva meal.
In lieu of flowers, David wished for donations to be made in his name to The Jimmy Fund at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
