

Dr. E. Laurie Tolman of Lincoln, formerly Belmont, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2023, at the age of 88. Born in Chelsea on April 19, 1935, he attended Boston Latin School ‘53, Harvard College ’57, and University of Vermont School of Medicine ‘61. A prominent Boston dermatologist, he practiced at the Lahey Clinic for over forty years. He was the first dermatologist in Boston to perform Mohs surgery treatment for skin cancer having trained directly with Dr. Mohs at the Mayo Clinic.
Dr. Tolman was defined first by his grace, kindness, and humility. He was a leader in every community of which he was a part. He served as president of the Beth El Temple Center in Belmont where they worshipped for nearly a half century, and the first president of the Resident Council at The Commons in Lincoln, where he and his wife Sylvia Tolman lived the last ten years. He was chair of his department at the Lahey Clinic, where he spent his career. He was an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School where he trained generations of medical students and residents. He never hesitated to take care of the many people who sought his help. His colleagues, patients and many life-long friends mourn his passing.
Dr. Tolman leaves behind multiple legacies. He was beloved husband to Sylvia (Bossman) Tolman, loving father of Deborah Tolman and her husband, Luis Ubiñas, David Tolman and his wife, Maria Motto, and Audrey Tolman and her husband Eric Goldstein. He was cherished grandfather to Max, Ben, Luke, Claire, Maddie, and Sam, devoted brother to Roz Boyer and uncle to Toby Grossguth, Alan Boyer, and Shari Blinn.
Services will be at the Chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street in Sharon on Tuesday, June 27 at 1:00 pm.
