Eleanor Priscilla (Katz) Jacobson on Thursday, March 21, 2019. She was born in 1913, the youngest daughter of the late Morris Katz & Bunia (Minnie) Katz of Gloucester and for 68 years the loving wife of Hyman L. Jacobson until his death in 2004. He was a founder of the Aperion Caterers, President of Gloucester Auto Bus Company and the first Administrator of Westwood Lodge Hospital.
Eleanor was the devoted mother of Gary Jacobson MD & his wife Susan B. Jacobson of Newton, and of Myles D. Jacobson, Esq. & his wife Abbie Steiner of Northampton. She was the proud grandmother of Joseph M. Jacobson & his wife Sharon B. Jacobson of Jerusalem, M. Ari Jacobson, Esq. & his wife Betti Ann Jacobson of Teaneck, NJ and Dr. Jonathan M. Jacobson & his wife Dr. Sara J. Jacobson of Worcester. She was the loving great grandmother of Joshua Jacobson & his wife Rotem Budagzad Jacobson, Gabriella & her husband Chaim Eisenberg, and of Isaac, Daniel (Dov), Yoel, Asher, Chaim, Andrew, and Sophia Jacobson. She was happy to be the “adopted grandmother” of the Burman-Gordon-Belluck clan. Eleanor was the President of Brandeis University National Women’s Committee, Boston Chapter, President of the South Brookline Chapter of Hadassah, and with her husband, a founding member of Temple Emeth in Brookline. She was a uniformed volunteer nursing assistant at Deaconess Hospital during World War II. She was a tireless worker for the State of Israel and in so doing met with David Ben Gurion, Abba Eban, and Golda Meir. She was a gracious hostess, an artist on canvass and in life.
Services at the Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard St., Brookline on Sunday, March 24 at 10am.
Burial in the Shara Tfilo Cemetery, 776 Baker St,. West Roxbury.
Shiva will be at her late residence 1-4pm and 6-9pm through Thursday with Mincha services at 6:45pm and Maariv services following.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in her name to the charities which she has designated: Brandeis University (Waltham) for Programs in Jewish studies, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital (Boston), Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Boston), Hadassah Northeast (Newton Center), or Temple Emeth, (Brookline).
