Elvira Rita Day

Day, Elvira “Elly” (Kalik), of Newton Centre, MA, passed away on April 19, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Max Day for more than 66 years. Devoted mother of David Day and his wife Rose, Susan Fisch and her husband Shalom, Matthew Day and his wife Andrea, and J. Ari Day and his wife Bich Nguyen. Proud grandmother of Zach and Yael Day; Nachum, Chana, and Miriam Fisch; Alessandra, Emilia, and Nina Day; and Sander and Charlotte Day. Elly was born in New York, NY, in 1925. She attended the Little Red School House, graduated Indiana University, and received a Master’s degree from Simmons School of Social Work. She loved art, gardening, and Jazz, but nothing was more important to her than her husband, her children, and her beautiful grandchildren. Services will be held at Temple Emanuel, 385 Ward St., Newton, MA, on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 1 pm. Following interment at Sharon Memorial Park, Shiva will be observed, from 5-6 pm, and will continue Saturday, 9-10 pm. Shacharit will be at 8 am on Sunday, and 7 am Monday through Thursday. Minha Maariv will be at 7:30 pm, Sunday through Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston, 60 Stein Cir., Newton, MA 02459, or Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, 34 Washington St. # 200, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481.
