I came to Boston on my own in 1970, after growing up in NYC. My mother encouraged me to contact the Rosens (Fran and Dave), who were related from an earlier generation. Over the years since, they and their children have become an intimate family extension for me and my wife Nancy and we've grown to truly love them all for their warm welcome and acceptance as part of their family. To see the Rosens was to see a loving family.

And at the core of the family was Frances. To call her "our Saint" was meant to convey her giving and loving qualities - her generosity, her smile, her caring, her laugh, her unassuming manner, her dedication to family and friends...

I will surely miss Fran, but am comforted by a loving relationship with Dave and the Rosen family.

All of your loving kindness to him throughout his growing up a block or so away (or was he ever at home, come to think of it) has helped to bring him to the good man he is today. It was amazing to see how her whole family pulled together to take care of Frances in her last few months. The  four children and Dave have so much love for Fran that they would have collectively moved a mountain if they needed to. It was amazing to see how every need was met with love. My Saint Frances whispered to me while she was tended to by her family "I'm so lucky". And on that note, it was those of us who knew her who were the lucky ones. She was " the best." I will always remember my Saint Frances with love and admiration.

I, too, am a friend of daughter Susan. I was so sorry to learn of her mother's passing but heartened to know that Susan was able to spend time with her mother during these last few months. Sending lots of metta your way, friend Susan and family. Good wishes for ease for you all.

   Fran was an inspiration and joy to know from when we first met in Illinois, soon after I had married Dave's nephew in 1964. Always smiling, ever cheerful, Fran introduced me, a country girl from Iowa, to deli food from Chicago. It was inspirational to see Fran perform charitable work for the local synagogue, one of her small children in one hand, a pile of paperwork in her other. Her family moved to Boston, ours to Maine, which provided us with wonderful memories of family visits over many years. In our own older years, we have been steadily inspired by Fran's grace and dignity. She will be missed by all of us. Love, Patty, Ken and Andrew Rosen and Ingrid Rosen Burnside.
  Ken wanted to add that Fran has been an anchor of love, generosity and personal style for the entire Rosen family a great many years, for which we will always be grateful and mourn the loss of the wise, gentle, loving example Fran represented and insisted upon. Whenever we visited, we were in a place where houseplants flourished in response to her touch, and even her house pets seemed to bask and reflect her calm, confident affection and wisdom, wherein precious many of us found a connection and a valuable place.

I am a friend of her daughter Susan.  I see from the photo where Susan gets her warm smile.  Wishing comfort and support for all of you in your time of grieving.

Dear Frannie,  You were in my life from before I was born (so I'm told).  I remember the get-togethers of our families, first in Chicago, then Newton.  The memories that stick most with me are your kisses and the carrot cake made specially for me.

So many wonderful memories of the family next door, the Rosens, and particularly of Mrs Rosen's wonderful smile and optimism!  I've always cherished the wonderful note she included in the card for my wedding, what she wrote has come back to me so many times in the intervening years. When I forgot my keys to the house, as a younger person and an adult returning to the homestead, she was always at the ready with the key.

My thoughts and prayers are with Fran and all who cherished her. I have such nice memories of smile and her generous heart and the warm holiday dinners she served in her beautiful house. For such a tiny lady she radiated an awful lot of love. May she rest in peace and may her continued presence in Dave's heart give him the courage to go on wrapped in loving memories of their time together. Carole Borges-Jeff Rosen's ex-wife.
