Gerald R. “Jerry” Swirsky, age 84 years, of Sudbury, on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.
For 59 years, he was the beloved husband of Gabrielle “Gay” (Mandel) Swirsky. Loving father of Darryl A. and Kenneth D. Swirsky. Dear brother of Muriel Berman.
Born and raised in Roxbury, Massachusetts, where his parents Harry and Adele owned and ran Harry's Five and Dime on Blue Hill Avenue. Jerry went to Boston Latin School, and after moving to Newton Center, graduated from Newton High School. He put himself through Babson College working multiple jobs to pay for his tuition. After six months with the National Guard he worked as a salesman, first for his brother-in-law Herb Berman, then went on to become the principal salesperson for a building supply company, opening up new territories for them throughout New England. After taking a course at Harvard in securities investments, his instructor encouraged him to become a stockbroker, which he did most successfully. In 1972, he added realtor to his resume with Coldwell Banker serving as a vice president for a number of years.
Having grown up a city boy, Jerry always had a love of trees and flowers and enjoyed working in his yard in Sudbury, often creating the landscape and doing the plantings himself. He had a special fondness for peonies and collected many specimens of both tree and herbaceous peonies. He even developed a small greeting card company, which featured the photos that he took of his flowers. Another of Jerry's interest was his involvement in Wayland's Vokes Theatre, building sets, taking pictures, and eventually serving as president. He was an avid Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots fan. Everyone who knew Jerry knew him for his easygoing and sweet nature, and of course for that radiant smile.
