Joan P. Cohen, of Newton, formerly of Brookline, MA and Scottsdale, AZ, passed away on April 23, 2024 at the age of 94. Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Alan S. Cohen, M.D. She is survived by her children, Evan B. Cohen, M.D. and wife Anne of Providence, RI; Andrew H. Cohen of Newton; and Robert A. Cohen and wife Cindy of Scottsdale, AZ and Egremont, MA; and grandchildren, Sarah B. Cohen, Laura C. Cohen, Dana M. Cohen, James W. Cohen and Matthew W. Cohen.
Joan grew up in Brookline, graduated from Pembroke College, raised three sons in Newton Center and retired with her husband to Scottsdale, AZ. For many years she was a member of Temple Israel, Boston. She was an avid doubles tennis player and founding member of the Wightman Tennis Center in Weston, MA. She was a frequent museum goer and supporter of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. She had an exquisite sense of home decor and of fashion. She enjoyed travel with her husband throughout Europe and elsewhere. She also enjoyed music and dance. She was an innately caring person and loved seeing and hosting sleepovers for her grandchildren.
A private graveside service was held on Friday, April 26 at Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Phoenix, AZ.
