Jules and I met when we were just 15 years old, and from that moment on, our lives were intertwined for the next 72 years. We were only three and a half months apart in age, and it often felt as though we were growing up side by side, even when life eventually placed us in different states.

Over the years, we shared so many milestones. We attended each other’s weddings, watched our families grow, and created countless memories on camping trips with our children. Though Jules’ family lived in Massachusetts and mine in New Jersey, distance never weakened our bond. For nine years, we took turns visiting each other every month, making sure that our friendship remained a constant presence in both our lives.

In the years leading up to his passing, technology gave us yet another way to stay close. For nearly five years, Jules and I spoke on Skype almost every day. Those regular conversations became part of the rhythm of my life, and I miss them deeply. Even now, a year after his passing, I still feel the absence of his voice, his thoughts, and the easy understanding that comes only from a friendship that has lasted a lifetime.

Jules was more than a friend; he was a constant, a witness to my life as I was to his. I will always be grateful for the decades we shared and for the loyalty, warmth, and companionship he gave so freely. He remains very much in my heart, and he always will.

I knew Jules when we were both in Boston Squadron, CIVIL AIR PATROL, 1954-57. He was part of the cadet command structure as a cadet officer. We used to meet at the South Huntington Street armory. I lived in Lawrence for a long time and reached out to him when he lived in Methuen. I remember Jules as a nice guy.

Jules was a fixture at the Waterworks Museum from 2017 to July of 2022. Despite mobility challenges, Jules made it to and from the Museum week after week, ultimately donating more than 800 hours of his time. 
Jules was a warm and kind person, who found inspiration in the history and artifacts associated with the Waterworks Museum. He enthusiastically shared his knowledge and engineering experience with every visitor that walked in the door. Jules was committed to unraveling the historical and mechanical details of the site, often bringing his own teaching aids. On occasion delving too deep into the story of the discovery of Boston's Great Spring or methods of modern coal mining, Jules was always an engaging teacher and supportive colleague with a great sense of humor. His unique personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Our condolences to his family, from the Metropolitan Waterworks Museum.
