Laura Judith Lazarus, age 86, passed away on June 24, 2024 in Brighton MA. She was born on November 14, 1937 in the Bronx, NY to Joseph and Ruth (Kaplan) Berliner. She attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Bronx. After graduation she got her BA and Masters in Education from Hunter College.
After her family moved to Bayside Queens, she taught elementary school at PS 107 for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed teaching and received many letters of fond memories from her former students.
She married Lester Lazarus in 1972 and lived with him in Bayside until he passed away. She loved playing mahjong, going to the opera and attending Broadway shows. Broadway was her true passion.
She eventually moved to Brookline to be closer to her family, whom she loved dearly. She especially got tremendous joy from seeing her 2 grandnephews, Ezra and Beau. She was a member of Temple Sinai in Brookline.
She is survived by her brother, Allen Berliner, her sister-in-law, Edwina Berliner, her nieces, Joanna and Raquel Berliner, her nephews, Colin Kemble and Ryan Dumont, and her two grand-nephews Ezra and Beau Kemble.
Private services will be held on June 27 at Sharon Memorial Park. Donations in her memory can be made to Temple Sinai of Brookline, 50 Sewall Ave, Brookline MA 02446.
