Lorraine (Markell) Balkin, Age 87 of Weston, MA and Vero Beach, FL on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. For 65 years, beloved wife of Emanuel Balkin. Loving mother of Peter and Daniel and their wives Martha and Dawn, grandmother of Matthew (Yanjun Tao) Balkin, Lauren Balkin(William)Vetter, and Drew, Emma, and Abigail Balkin, and great grandmother of William Vetter.
Lorraine attended Vassar College and graduated from Wheaton College. She and Emanuel founded Décor International hand-woven rugs, which had a long history as a unique boutique on Newbury Street.
A Memorial Service will be held at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street, Brookline on Sunday, November 12 at 2:30PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
