Her professional life was remarkable. She contributed to the Framingham Heart Study, but spent most of her career advancing important work on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. She published research, earned awards, and helped families around the world. As a lifelong learner she was involved in the BOLLI program at Brandeis and her studies at Lasell Village.
Her service to others extended beyond her career. She volunteered with Planned Parenthood, Project Manna, and at Lasell Village.
Her greatest devotion was to family. She was married to the love of her life, Ed, for 62 years. They adored each other and supported one another through everything. Together they raised three daughters, welcomed three sons-in-law into the family as if they were her own, and opened their home to anyone who needed a place to stay.
Her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. She also cherished her nieces, nephews, and her beloved sister.
Friendship was another constant in her life. She kept lifelong bonds from her college days and made countless new friends along the way. Her home was always open — parties by the pool, multi-generational gatherings, and a Rosh Hashanah open house which would often bring 70 people together. She found deep community in her synagogue, attending services regularly and studying Judaism for over 50 years with her havurah.
Her resilience was quiet but profound. After losing most of the use of her left arm as a child, she never let it slow her down — so much so it was hardly noticed. She set an example of high moral standards for her children and grandchildren.
Her life was about connection and values. She embodied what it means to be a mensch.
