Marc Erwin Schweig, 68, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, passed away peacefully after a long illness in the early hours of Monday, February 6, at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, New Jersey. Marc was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts to the late Harold Schweig and Diane (Borenstein) Schweig.
Marc leaves behind a loving family: his dear wife of 46 years, Ellyn (Handorff) Schweig; three treasured children and their partners, Jonathan Schweig and Jennifer Cowan, Allyson (Schweig) Noel and Brian Noel, and Meredith Schweig and Andres Su; and three adoring grandchildren, Fiona Schweig, Charlotte Noel, and June Schweig-Su.
A devoted husband and father, friend, and colleague, Marc lived an exceptionally rich life. He found tremendous satisfaction in his career in telecommunications, pursuing a variety of roles for Bell Systems, Bell Labs, AT&T, Lucent Technologies, and Raritan Computer. His work took him and his family around the world, including a memorable five years in Amsterdam. He derived particular satisfaction from teaching MBA students as an adjunct professor and mentoring young executives as they pursued their dreams.
Marc cultivated a passion for food and opera, driving into Manhattan regularly to enjoy everything the city had to offer with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His extensive travels through Europe and Asia created a vast and loving network of friends. They will all carry the memory of his kindness, humor, and generosity in their hearts forever.
Funeral services will be held at Levine Chapels in Brookline, Massachusetts, at noon on Friday, February 10, with a burial to follow at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge. Those who knew and loved Marc are warmly welcomed to attend. If you would like to honor Marc, we suggest in lieu of flowers a donation to the Cancer Research Institute (http://cancerresearch.org) or to New York Public Radio (nypublicradio.org/).
