I was so saddened by the news of Marcia’s passing. We worked together in the juvenile justice system and sat on different committees together and attended many of the same meetings. She was so dedicated and always thought about what she could do to make the system better; we had many conversations about that. I wish she could have had more time on this earth to enjoy her well-deserved retirement. May she Rest In Peace. Angela Albertus

Marcia was kind, had a good sense of humor and undertook the training done by the People's Institute for Undoing Racism and Beyond, which engendered in me a great respect for her.  She was generous as well, inviting me to the first Christmas party after I retired.  My condolences to the family for your loss.

I am so sorry to learn of the loss of Marcia. She was a treasure. I had the pleasure of working closely with her over the years and her spirit and intellect were formidable and warm. Marcia cared deeply about the children and families impacted by family court. May her memory be a blessing. 

As a contemporary of Marcia's sister Mina, I remember Marcia's years in the Boston area. Smart, bright, witty & kind, she will always be remembered. 

“Ask Dr. Werchol”  was a mantra in Family Court for decades. Dr. Werchol was brilliant, funny, and generous.  Marcia had her own mantra. If you knew her you heard it. It was, “take care of yourself”.   I will miss a friend. 

Very sad news. Marcia and I worked together for many years and shared many professional and personal things. Among my best memories are her loving comments about her nephews and nieces.

Very saddened to hear of the untimely passing of esteemed colleague Dr. Marcia Werchol. She was a bedrock of clinical expertise and reason, and always attempted to impart those qualities to her disciples.  She will be missed. 

I am so sad to hear this news. Dr  Werchol was key to the initial design of of an innovative clinical care model in 2018, 3-2-1 IMPACT, an integrated two-generational model now being expanded at NYC Health + Hospitals from the prenatal period to age three. Marcia was key in helping us think broadly when a major funder brought the prospect of support to "reimagine" how our public healthcare system could serve caregivers and children. She also helped us to (appropriately, as a first stage) refine our scope to primary care, and had wanted to help us build out sound connections between this program and the family court system, where the needs for families are parallel and as entrenched. Marcia was also a keen voice calling out and advocate on systemic racism (i.e. disproportionate drug testing in our system on pregnant women of color, as well as the court system), and made sure remediating this racism was considered at every point. Dr Werchol brought big, relevant ideas to these initial conversations and had hoped to remain involved in IMPACT before retiring last year. 

I will personally miss Marcia for all her thoughtful contributions, her personal commitment to this work, and her generous spirit.

Dr. Werchol or “MW” as we all called her hired me in 1997. That was the beginning of our 22 year working relationship at MHS.  She also hired my wife in 2006. So in many ways, my entire family is thankful for knowing her. Rest in peace and condolences to Marcia’s family. 

I was lucky to have worked under Dr. Werchol's leadership at Family Court Mental Health Services. Dr. Werchol was a dynamic and larger than life leader who brought everything she had to her work.  She was passionate about the agency's mission - dedicated to the furtherance of justice and the wellbeing of families and children. With her sharp intellect and great wit, Dr. Werchol sparked inspiration and commitment in everyone.  I will truly miss Dr. Werchol but will always remember the lessons she imparted.  I extend my sincere condolences to Dr. Werchol's family, who can be comforted to know she leaves behind a great legacy. 

A brilliant mind, dedicated professional and caring human being for all of the over 30 years that I knew Marcia.  I wish that she had had more time in retirement and life.

My deepest sympathy to the family.  Marcia was truly an amazing person.  The dedication, professionalism and compassion that she brought to her work made such a tremendous difference to all who came before her, worked with her and worked for her.  She will be profoundly missed.



My deepest sympathy to Marcia's family and friends.  As an attorney in New York Family  Court, I met Marcia  in her capacity as the Assistant Vice President, Family Court Mental Health Services.  I will fondly remember Marcia's  willingness to share her expertise and experiences  addressing the mental health needs of youth in the child welfare system.  She generously shared her insight, experience and resources.   Additionally, we both served as stakeholder members on a NY family court committee advising the supervising judge on LGBTQ matters.  Marcia kept the committee apprised of mental health resources and publications relevant to the LGBTQ community. May she Rest in Peace. 

Dr. Werchol was always available to advise and answer any questions we had at the Red Hook Community Justice Center. The reports her office provided were the most comprehensive and helpful reports prepared by anyone inthe justice system. With these detailed reports, we could start the process of  providing services to help the young person and his or her family get their life back on track. She was a true professional and the work done by her staff made a difference in the lives of many families. She was also just a great person to work with - so dedicated, caring and compassionate. 

Please accept my sincere condolences on the death of your sister, aunt and great-aunt, Dr. Marcia C. Werchol. I had the pleasure of working with her on individual cases, co-presenting educational programs, and serving on policy-making committees in both the Manhattan and Brooklyn Family Courts. Her sensitivity to the needs of the youth and their families was profound. The depth and breadth of her knowledge was an important resource for the litigants, lawyers and judges. How critical it was to know her judgment could be counted upon. She, and her dry sense of humor, will be missed.

This is such sad news.  I worked with Marcia for more than 15 years, and she taught me so much.  She was a generous, supportive, and thoughtful colleague and friend, and will be missed. 

I am saddened to learn of Dr. Werchol's death.    As a defense attorney/public defender in the NY Family Court over many years, I valued her kindness, wit, generosity and intelligence.

Marcia was an esteemed colleague, known for her sharp mind, deep commitments, and sense of humor. My heartfelt condolences to her family, whom she spoke of frequently and lovingly. 

There are those people in life who the sheer mention of their name spreads warmth and joy, that was Marcia.  She was my colleague at NYC H&H.  We broke bread together a couple of times and laughed conspiratorially and uproariously.  Rest in peace my dear; I will hold on to your light.
