Dr. Martin Jerome Saklad

Dr. Martin J. Saklad, passionately known as "Marty" and "DOC" of Newton, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025.

Devoted husband of 71 years to Joan (Hagler) Saklad, his college sweetheart. He leaves behind Laurence, (Laura), Steven, his wife Michelle and daughter Amanda, Scott and his wife Lisa. Adored grandfather of Matthew, his wife Olivia, Marc, Ryan, and Tyler.

His passion for baseball began in the streets of Brookline as a young boy, playing stickball. His love of the game continued throughout his life, coaching his legendary Newton East Little League Red Sox in the 60s and 70s. Doc was a fast-pitch softball third baseman with a great set of hands and a scrappy hitter for Trinity Church in Newton. His most exciting years were spent playing in the Eastern Men’s Over 55 League until he was 86.

Marty graduated from Tufts Dental School and was a former Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps.

Doc had a loving heart. He was a beloved teammate, had a great sense of humor, and will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
