Dr. Marvin I. Berman, a resident of Brooksby Village in Peabody passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of October 20, 2022 at the age of 94. Born in Boston, he was the beloved husband of Doris (Long) for 69 years. Marvin was the adored son of the late Elsie and Hyman Berman and the son-in-law of the late Louis and Mary Long; the loving brother of Barbara Rosenblatt and her late husband Seymour, the late Bernard Berman and his wife Lois; and a devoted brother-in-law to Rona Meizler and her late husband Harold, the late Jason Long and his wife May, and the late Bertram Long and his wife Gloria. Marvin loved and was greatly adored by his children and their spouses, Nancy Swan and her husband Rick, Jeffrey Berman and his wife Estela, Karen Cohen and her husband Joel; and was a devoted grandfather to Christian, Alan, Margot, Briana, and Drew. He was also the fond uncle of his many nieces and nephews.
After growing up in Dorchester and Brookline, Marvin matriculated at Tufts University at age 16, served in the Navy for two years, then returned to Tufts, graduating with a degree in dentistry in 1953. Two days later, he was married to Doris, and they began their wonderful life together, moving to New York for an internship at Montefiore Hospital and then returning to the Boston area, where Marvin opened his first dental practice in Brookline. In 1961, the family moved to Peabody where Marvin opened a second dental practice and, with Doris, raised their three children and formed many cherished and lasting friendships.
To Marvin, family was everything. He always had a smile on his face and a tune on his tongue. He was into fitness long before it became fashionable, jogging, and playing tennis into his eighties. He devoured books and loved knowledge, reading most of Encyclopedia Britannica and sharing his wisdom with all. He had a great sense of humor, ready with a Marvin joke in every situation. To be in his presence was truly a pleasure.
Funeral services will be in the Chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, on Sunday, October 23 at 1:00 pm.
