Max H. Segal, of Newton on Friday, August 8, 2025.
For 66 years, he was the beloved and loving husband of Edith Segal. Loving father of Orna Segal (z’l), Alona Burman (Peter) and Gady Ross Segal (Elana) Adored grandfather of Alexa and Jordan Max Segal and Sara Debora and Moshe Tzvi Burman. Dear uncle of Danny Segal. Dear brother of the late Moshe Segal and Dutza Regenstreif.
Max was born in 1929, in the small village of Luizoaia, Romania. At the start of WWII, Max and his family were forced to move from their home in the country to a very modest apartment in the town of Botosani due to new rules dictating where Jews could live. He encountered a lot of antisemitism, including beatings from neighborhood children and having to wear a yellow star on his clothing. His father and older brothers were put into forced labor camps. Some of his uncles were killed during programs or in concentration camps. Max, his mother and sister had little money, and little means to earn money. They survived by selling off their possessions and clothing and handmade knitted items. Most of the time they went to bed hungry.
Max survived the war and graduated top in his class from The Technical University in Iasi Romania, as a mechanical engineer. He met the love of his life, Edith, and they married in 1960. They suffered for years under communist regimes. In 1963, they immigrated to Israel, where Max worked for the Israeli Aircraft Industry, where he was responsible for many innovations in the design of aircrafts for the Israeli Air Force. In 1963, Max and Edith welcomed their first child. Unfortunately, she became ill and passed away in Max’s arms when she was only 17 months old.
After a number of years, they joyfully had two more children.
In 1976, Max and his family moved to the United States. They lived in Brookline for a number of years, and eventually moved to their home in Newton. His home was his castle, which he loved so much. He worked as a managing partner at Medico Inc in Woburn for decades.
Max was a very honest, formal and dignified man, and loved to travel the world with his wife. His family were his number one priority and focus. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren, and they in return cherished him.
Max passed away peacefully in his own bed in his home, with his wife and children holding his hands — which was exactly the way he wished he would go.
