

Melvin S. “Mel” Kravitz, of Belmont, on Wednesday May 31, 2023.
For 69 years, he was the beloved husband of Loretta (Fine); son to the late Abe and Lillian Kravitz of Worcester; father to daughters, Lisa of Holliston, Rhonda and husband Bob of Holliston, and Allison and husband Brian of Canton, GA. Loving grandfather “Papa” to Ryan and Heather, Kevin and Ashley, and Alexis and Ashley. Brother to David Kravitz and the late Ruben Kravitz.
Mel graduated from Commerce High School, Worcester, MA and was active in the Naval Reserves and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Melvin was a long-time member at Temple Beth El of Belmont. In addition to his immense love for his family, he was an icon in Brighton and Coolidge Corner, Brookline, with his two shoe stores, Mel’s Capitol Shoe and Downtown Shooz for 60+ years, retiring at the age of 86. His passion for putting others first was exemplified in his volunteer work at the Little Brother’s-Friends of the Elderly (Boston) and the Yachad Center, a program for young adults with disabilities in Coolidge Corner.
A funeral will be held in the Chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 1:00pm.
The family will sit Shiva at the home of Loretta and Melvin following the burial through 6:00 PM and continuing on Monday from 2:00–6:00pm.
