
He lived most of his life in Newton, retired to Boynton Beach, FL and lived at the Goddard House in Brookline in his later years.
Mac is survived by his daughters Gitte (Gail) Kushner, Najda Maria, Judy Kushner-DeGroot & her husband Al, his three grandsons; Jake & Nate DeGroot and Mark Noonan. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Shay Kushner, his sister Freda Schiller, his parents Dora & Jacob Kushner and extended family.
Mac was born July 11th, 1918 in Boston's West End. He graduated from Boston English High and as a young man started a wholesale bakery distribution business in Roxbury. He was the first to bring Handy Pax, Peggy Lawton & New York Cheesecake to New England. Mac was always looking out for the welfare of those around him. He had a smile for everyone and will be remembered for making those he came in contact with him feel loved and cared for. Mac brought his young employees from the Dorchester area to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial breakfasts to give them a sense of community and pride. He has inspired his family to carry on his legacy of gentle strength, compassion and kindness. He was a founding member of Temple Mishkan Tefila. He and Shay derived friendship and great spiritual nourishment from their years spent at the Temple. Mac's family would like to thank all the staff and nurses at Aviv and Kathy Murphy of Matthew Shwartz Chelsea Hospice for their unending care and support.
A graveside funeral is scheduled for Monday, April 6th. at 11:45am at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon.
All are welcome to celebrate Mac's life following at Congregation Mishkan Tefila until 4pm & from 6-8:30pm. Tuesday and Wednesday, the family will be gathering at Judy & Al's home on the North Shore from 6-9pm.
