Myrna Green, aged 96, died on February 25, 2026. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and was the daughter of Mae Shapiro Sharaf and Louis Benjamin Sharaf. She was married to Jacob “Jack” Green, who predeceased her, for almost 68 years. During the early years of their marriage, they lived in various places across the country – from Norfolk, Virginia to Bremerton, Washington – while Jack, a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, served in the Navy. After having four children, they eventually settled in Massachusetts.
Myrna was a talented, classically trained soprano with a beautiful, elegant voice. While studying at Boston University’s School of the Arts, she developed a special passion for choral music. Some of the happiest times of her life were spent during summers as a student at the Tanglewood Music Festival, where she sang great choral works under the batons of Serge Koussevitzky and Robert Shaw, and where Leonard Bernstein and Aaron Copland were in residence at the time. Though she did not go on to pursue music in a professional capacity, she sang in several choruses over the years, was a regular and avid concertgoer, and actively instilled in her children a deep appreciation for the arts. Myrna’s other interests included volunteering at her children’s schools, reading The Boston Globe and The New York Times cover to cover, reading biographies, reading The New Yorker, watching (and rewatching) classic movies, listening to Lorraine Hunt Lieberson sing anything and everything (but especially Handel), attending vocal master classes, walking around the Chestnut Hill Reservoir, rooting for the Boston Celtics, and shopping for and painstakingly selecting just the right gift for family members and friends.
In her later years, Myrna tended to her husband, Jack, during his long illness. Her steadfastness and care allowed them to remain in the home they loved. After Jack died, Myrna suffered from limited mobility, but owing to her fierce determination, faithful caregivers, and her daughter Caroline, she continued to enjoy her favorite activities, especially visits to the library.
Myrna (also Mom and Nana) was a cherished daughter, loving and beloved wife, devoted mother, and caring, loyal friend. She is survived by her children, Richard (Judith Warnement) Green, Douglas Green, Emily Green (Jeffrey) Caplan, and Caroline Green. She was also the proud grandmother of Lucy (Chase Carpenter) Caplan and Laurel Caplan, and great-grandmother of Ezra Jacob Carpenter. She will be missed and remembered.
A service was held at Sharon Memorial Park on March 2, 2026.
