Neil was the son of Dr. Louis N. and Shirley Ruby Schwartz. He was an entrepreneur and ventured into any business that would let him wear shorts or old-school sweat suits! He was a devoted fan of all Boston sports teams and befriended several players from each team including many from the Bruins with whom he fraternized in the 60’s and 70’s. He is most remembered for his dedication to Newton area youth sports teams and the countless number of athletes that benefited from his tutelage. Neil took great pride in assisting young men in developing a sense of pride and responsibility, as well as coaching successful teams.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Neil. He was a true friend to many and a devoted family man. He was a patriarch of the family, often making sure elders were visited, being generous in both advice and financial support to those in need. He was gregarious; full of life; at one point even a fashion plate! He did things his way and though he may not have understood your reason to disagree, he would respect your opinion. He found value in everyone he met and made each feel special.
Neil is survived by his son Jeffrey (Debbie) and grandchildren Jordan and Corey, stepson Andrew step grandson Ryan, other stepchildren Douglas, Stephen, and Lauren and step grandchildren Cathleen and Sarah; brothers Peter (Lynne and nephews Seth, Lael, and Drew), and Michael (Janine and nephews Ben and Austin) and many loving cousins and friends.
The family wishes to extend their profound appreciation to the staff of the Jewish Health Care Center of Worcester for their loving care of Neil over almost nine years. In lieu of flowers contributions in Neil’s memory can be made to the JHCC 629 Salisbury St, Worcester, MA 01609.
