

Nitaya (née Tumsaroch) Matthias, 73, of Potsdam, NY passed away calmly on the night of July 3rd, 2025 in Boston, MA after quietly enduring a decades-long struggle with multiple cancers. Born in Bangkok, Thailand on December 7th, 1951 to Sard and Mali (née Tavolpol) Tumsaroch. After finishing secondary school in Thailand, she arrived in the United States and attended Nashoba Regional High School in Bolton, MA, and later Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, MA where she graduated with degrees in Accounting and Mathematics. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Julian David Matthias, MD. She is survived by her three brothers, two sisters, and her only son, Andrew Matthias. Nitaya was a dedicated mother and devoted wife. She spent her time gardening, stamp-collecting, cooking for her family, and traveling the world. Nitaya will be greatly missed by all of her family, friends, and those that cared for her. Cherished by her son, she will be honored and remembered forever.
Her last year of life was a true medical miracle only made possible by the state-of-the-art, compassionate, and ceaseless-care provided by the teamwork of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Faulkner Hospital, Hebrew Rehabilitation Center, and St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. Special thanks to Brewster Ambulance and Boston EMS for saving Nitaya's life on multiple occasions. All of their professionalism and perseverance when treating and caring for Nitaya will not be forgotten.
A small memorial service will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any of the following:
