Dear Anna,
My heartfelt condolences to you and your family on the passing of Paul Ornstein. I will never forget our panel of Warm Ashes at the Berlin 2007 IPA Congress when we shared traumatic events during the Nazi Regime and the lasting impressions of their imprints on our souls and on our work with patients. It was Paul who stood up with tolerance and compassion when a member in the audience stood up in rage and condemned all Germans after my presentation as a German war survivor. Paul's words of reconciliation were followed by a caring, fruitful and sharing discussion. Thank you! May he now rest in peace and may you, Anna, find comfort in a the many wonderful memories of your life together.

So sorry to hear of Dr. Ornstein's death. He was a remarkable man and a splendid supervisor. He will be greatly missed. I hope the  memories of your life together is of some comfort at this difficult time. My thoughts are with you and your family.

dearest anna and family i am sitting here with my father as he wipes away tears of the loss of one of his oldest friends. he is reciting to me im writing my best. his memories go back to hiedelberg the berkshires ohio w hornsteind memories of my mother and paul laughing .. he is truly devastted and he is reminded how much my mom shoshana loved her paulica... words cant express al his feelings but his heart is crying much love from all tuchmans

Dear family of Dr. Ornstein,  I wish that I had had a chance to know your husband, and father (and had known you Mrs. Ornstein, as well.) We just do not have enough time here to learn of, or get to know the precious souls who are in our life circle.  After reading Dr. Ornstein's obituary in the Globe this AM (2-3-17), I felt a loss as if we had been kin. To Anna...I felt great sadness when I learned of Paul Ornstein's death.  I am one of the practicing therapists far out in the concentric rings of his influence who found listening to him at conferences and reading material produced by him to be sustaining in my work.  And to you, Anna for your memories of your mother, I also will always be indebted.

Dear Anna, I send my deepest condolences to you and your family.  Paul was a wonderful human being, and a masterful teacher to a young resident in psychiatry. I still remember his rejoinders to listen to the patient, and put yourself in their shoes.  Always respectful to our patients, no matter what how difficult were their problems.

I worked for Dr. Ornstein in the 70's. Both he and his wife, Dr. Anna Ornstein, were always such a blessing and inspiration to me. I have thought of you both through the years. Both Dr. Paul Ornstein and Dr. Anna Ornstein were Holocaust survivors. Their lives post war were always a reminder to me that if they could survive that, there would never be anything in my life that would come my way that I couldn't overcome. Rena and I express our deepest condolences on the loss of Paul.  It is challenging to estimate the number of clinicians Paul affected throughout his long and productive career.  He provided a most enduring foundation for understanding our patients and ourselves. I can recall my first teaching sessions with Paul on the inpatient service of the old Cincinnati General Hospital when we were beginning residents and where he would interview the most disturbed patients and leave me in awe as to how he could possibly understand so well a patient whom he had only met 15 minutes earlier. His interviews were masterful and left the residents with a model of the psychiatrist who was non judgmental, respectful, and warm.  He taught us that it was most important to be a mensch first.  Although we wrote papers together that were very rewarding, I remember most the times, as a young faculty member, that when I had a difficult patient, I could always walk across the street and get the most helpful of consultations from Paul. He has left an extraordinary legacy that will always be a source of pride for the Ornstein family. Jerry and Rena Kay

I will always remember Paul for his beautiful scholarly introductions to the work of Kohut. I always had a deep admiration for both Paul and you for the rich and generous lives you led in both the academic and psychoanalytic world and as parents and grandparents -- a huge feat considering the tremendous losses both of you endured during the holocaust.
I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy to you and your family and wish you strength in dealing with the loss of your dear partner after 71 years of marriage.
