Peter Verveer Tishler, 83, of Watertown, formerly of Brookline, died on Monday, January 18, 2021. He was the beloved and loving husband of Sigrid Lemlein Tishler, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Born in Boston to the late Max and Elizabeth Verveer Tishler, he grew up in New Jersey and attended Harvard College.
Peter’s memory will be cherished by his devoted children, Jordan Tishler and his wife Lori, Alison Tishler and her fiancé, Craig Carpenter, and his loving grandchildren, Alexander Lee Cantrell and his fiancée, Lexi Lang, Joshua Max Cantrell, Benjamin Tishler Cantrell, and Rebecca Elise (Ellie) Tishler. Peter also leaves behind his brother, Carl Tishler and his wife Bonnie Katz of Columbus, OH, as well as his nephew, Jake Tishler and his wife Molly Hersh. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Steven Cantrell. Other relatives, many friends, colleagues, and generations of trainees remember him with fondness.
A graduate of Yale School of Medicine, Peter was the consummate academic physician. He loved the care of patients, research, and teaching at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the West Roxbury Veteran’s Administration Hospital, and Boston City Hospital. He trained generations of residents and never forgot his own teachers at the former Boston City Hospital. He was an avid gardener, growing orchids and participating in land conservation. He loved music and never missed a piano recital by any of his grandchildren. He instilled in his children and grandchildren both a love of nature and a strong social conscience.
Services will be held privately due to COVID-19 public health restrictions.
