

his loved ones by his side. Born in Medford and raised in Dorchester, he was a
local artist with work in the Boston Public Library's Wiggin Collection who
showed in venues in and around Boston and continued to paint until the end of
his life. A graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, he served as an
officer in the Merchant Marine during World War II. Later he earned his BFA from
Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and his
Masters Degree in Art History from Harvard University. He had a dual career as
an Associate Professor of Art and Art History at Newton College of the Sacred
Heart and as a Merchant Marine officer who sailed cargo ships to ports around
the world, from Israel to Tasmania. He is preceded in death by his wife of 42
years, Bernice (Meirovitz), and by his brother, Harold Marcus of Miami, Florida.
He is survived by his companion of 18 years, Mary Linda Foxhall, daughter Joan
R. Marcus and son-in-law Roger Hecht of Ithaca, New York, son Robert J.
Marcus and daughter-in-law Kristina of Boston, and granddaughters Anna and
Nora Marcus-Hecht. Memorial service to be held at the Levine Chapels, 470
Harvard Street, Brookline on Sunday, December 4 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers,
