

Rhoda Ruth Winer was born in 1933, the daughter of Arabella Kelson Woogmaster and Philip Woogmaster. She grew up in Chelsea, graduated from Brandeis University in 1955, and later received a Master’s Degree in Education. She married Richard S. Winer in 1955, and they shared a devoted, loving, and fun-filled life for the next 65 years. The two were inseparable, enjoying time with family and friends, travel, and the arts.
They lived in Sudbury for 40 years and in Boston’s South End for the past 10 years. Rhoda was an educator, writer, and lover of words and books. She was adored by her husband, Richard, her son Eric P. Winer and his wife Nancy Borstelmann, her daughter Ellen Winer Joachim and her husband Michael Joachim, as well as her grandchildren Jeffrey Winer and his wife Meghan Schreck, Joel Winer and his husband Matthew Babcock, Emily Winer Suresky and her husband Jared Suresky, Zachary Joachim, Seth Joachim, and Matthew Joachim. She also leaves two great-granddaughters, Lucy and Hazel Winer, as well as countless friends that she made and retained over eight decades.
Rhoda died unexpectedly on December 27, 2020. She will be deeply missed by so many people. A memorial service will be held post-pandemic.
