Richard "Dick" Sharkansky passed away on September 13, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on March 28, 1939, in Fall River, Massachusetts, he was the son of Abraham and Ethel Sharkansky, and was predeceased by his brother, Robert Sharkansky.
Dick was a proud graduate of Durfee High School, Durfee Tech, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he earned a Master’s in Electrical Engineering. While working at Raytheon, he continued his education and received his JD from Suffolk University. He went on to serve as Patent Counsel at Raytheon, where he mentored countless colleagues who went on to successful careers of their own.
After more than 35 years at Raytheon, Dick transitioned into private practice, first with Fish & Richardson, and later alongside his former colleagues at Daly, Crowley & Mofford, LLP. He eventually built an independent practice as a patent attorney, working well into his early 80s.
Beyond his career, Dick cherished his time with family and friends. He and his wife, Barbara, raised their family in Needham, MA, and later enjoyed many years in Mashpee, MA (New Seabury), where he spent time golfing and gathering by the beach. In later years, he made his home in Palm Beach Gardens, FL (BallenIsles Country Club).
Above all, Dick found his greatest joy and purpose in his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Sharkansky of Brookline, MA; his son, Michael Sharkansky, his wife, Jennifer Borak, of Harrison, NY; and his daughter, Lori Lustig, and her husband, Matthew, of Westport, CT. He was the proud grandfather of Jake and Hannah Lustig and Spencer Sharkansky. Dick is also survived by his sister, Carol Weinberg of Stoughton, MA; his sister-in-law, Linda of Brockton, MA; and many loving nieces and nephews.
