Ruth Freund Snider, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at the age of 101.
Ruth was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1924 to Erwin O and Rosalind Freund. She attended Sarah Lawrence College and moved to Boston after her marriage to Eliot Snider, to whom she was the devoted wife for 76 years. Ruth loved Boston and was on the board at the Boston Ballet and Dana Farber and was a trustee at the Wang Center. She spent many hours working with autistic children at McLean Hospital in Belmont. In addition, for 12 years she ran The March Hare, a beautiful antique and interior design store on Newbury Street. Her sense of style and design were highly sought after.
Ruth leaves behind her children, Andy Snider and his wife Jody Binswanger, Paul Snider and Nancy Budge, her grandchildren, David Snider and his wife Whitney, Jonathan Snider and his wife Annalisa, Donald Budge and his wife Ly, and Stephen Snider. Her great-grandchildren include Ella, James, Henry, Charlie, and Perry.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's memory can be made to Dana Farber.
