Sandi was born in Brooklyn, NY and spent most of her childhood in Walden, NY, which she fondly referred to as her “happy place”. She attended Cornell University where she received her undergraduate degree and Master’s Degree in Education. After teaching briefly, she switched careers and moved to Boston, where she pursued a career in nutrition and obtained her degree as a registered dietician. After working in the hospital environment for many years, her career took another turn as a contract manager for Boston University and finally Harvard University, where she worked for over 25 years, until her retirement several years ago.
Sandi was small in stature but fierce in nature. She cherished her independence and never wavered in her desire to live life on her terms. She was exceedingly grateful for her family and circle of friends that comprised her world. She will be remembered for her intelligence, artistic talent, humor, compassion and her unique ability to always provide a listening ear. She was much loved and will be sorely missed.
Sandi was the dear daughter of the late Seymour and Gloria Colby, beloved wife of the late Charles H. Newton IV, adored sister and best friend of Andrea Colby and her husband Fred Levitan of Brookline, MA and Dr. Jay Colby and his wife Therese of Crossville, TN. Devoted aunt to Matthew Levitan and his wife Ellen Cizek, Jackson Colby, Emily Boyce and her husband Brett and Tessa Simeone and her husband Dalton. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Lida Miner, Kate Berglund and her husband Steve and brother-in-law John Newton and his wife Crissy and their families. She leaves many loving cousins, great nieces and nephews, friends and former colleagues.
