Photo post my graduation in May 2016. Sandy and Harris gave us a graduation party. We had food and a great time together. Even after graduation, Sandy and Harris continued to be my family in this new country. Sandy once told me to tell my parents that I have family here, and she meant it. I will always cherish her for her warmth, love, and generosity that knows no bounds!

It is with great sadness that I learned of Sandy's passing.  
I knew her from the New Yorker group. Many years ago when I joined she was incredibly warm and welcoming. I would sit down at the big group table and she always made sure to include new people. 
She will be missed.

Sandy and I first became knew each other when our daughters became friends in nursery school Years later we renewed our acquaintanceship at the program for retired people at Brandeis. We became close friends when she and I and four other women formed a group to prepare and co-lead courses for the program. We and our husbands also participated in a program to host students from overseas who were attending Brandeis. She also established and led a weekly group which discusses a short story from the New Yorker. 

My husband and I were fortunate to be invited guests at their annual July 4th celebration. It was unique because it included a reading and discussion of the Declaration of Independence.

I will miss Sandy forever.  I will miss her warmth, her love of leaning, her joy for others during their happy times and her readiness to give her all to others during sad times.

Sandy and I became acquainted when our daughters, Donna and Lauren became friends at nursery school in Lexington. Many years later Harris and Sandy and I and our husbands attended the program for seniors at Brandeis. We became close friends when she and I and four other women formed a group to prepare and co- lead courses  at the program. She also established and led a group which meets weekly to discuss a short story from the New Yorker.  We and our husbands also were members of a program which hosted students from overseas who were attending Brandeis.

Sandy was a uniquely friendly woman whose greatest joy in life was to give of herself to others. She was always available to share in both the joys and sorrows of everyone she knew and to offer a helping hand. Harris and she hosted an annual July 4th celebration at their  home which was typical of their hospitality.

I will miss Sandy 's friendship forever. My deepest condolences to Harris and their family.

Sandy and I were friends since elementary school, living in Dorchester; we ice skated on a makeshift pond, crossing a major hwy
on blades to get there and then crumping out quickly and taking long walks to get hot chocolate and talk about life.  In high school she starred; she was chosen to write a monthly column in a teen magazine about what was au courant in the world of adolescents, a job she held throughout college and which paid handsomely.    Sandy was a reader, a learner, fun, generous and caring.   She had a deep connection to family and a large and expanding group of friends.  She was a total Pearl Mesta.  Her annual July 4th parties were fun, gathering friends to read The Declaration of Independence.  Her and Harris' home welcomed many relatives who stayed for extended times.  She invited Ed to come stay with them when I was away for a week because she thought he might be lonely.  She cared about foreign students and were loving mentors with Harris.  She had an uncanny sense of what gifts children or friends might want.  When my daughter Nancy was 13 and recovering from dental surgery, Sandy breezed in and threw the Real  Paper across the bed introducing her to the world of advertized sex to the total delight of Nancy.  She loved art and beauty and her home was always filled with flowers and art objects from her travel and Harris' mother.  Sandy was an intellect, a reader and learner and for the last part of her life both taught and learned at BOLLI which was a center of her intellectual and social life.  She is remembered by Ed and me as a  giving friend who was always there to discuss life, the world and be a resource for all things.
When a child in our family died 13 years ago in January she and Harris and another friend drove to NYC in a blizzard for the memorial to support us.  This is how we remember Sandy.
