Born in Worcester, MA, daughter of the late Isadore & Sylvia Golub she went through the Worcester public school system before attending Salter College where she trained to be a medical assistant. Sheila also attended the New England Conservatory of Music where she studied classical opera, after which she became a popular event vocalist throughout New England and the Catskills Mountains. She was proud to be the runner up to the Miss Massachusetts Pageant and held title of Miss Worcester and Miss Worcester Photographer.
Leaving Worcester, she went to work at the Harvard Medical School Health Service and worked under the renowned Dr. Hermon Blumgort.
She was married in 1972.
Sheila was well known for her bright and energetic spirit, her mastery of bargain shopping, and her interests in fashion, decorating, and art. Her life was filled with caring for her friends, family, and anyone who was in need. As a Board member of Jewish Family Service, she chaired many spectacular fundraising events using her creative talents for decorating.
Sheila was most happy being around her family and friends, particularly at her summer home in Gloucester, MA where she enjoyed over two decades of the best memories with family and friends and in the last decade her grandchildren.
Her battle with cancer did not define her and she became an aggressive advocate for care of women. For the past seven years, a team established in Sheila’s honor “Team Sheila” ran a 5K in Central Park in NYC raising over $100,000 for the Susan G. Komen Greater NYC Race for the Cure.
Special recognition goes to the Mass General Hospital Cancer Center and to the dedicated doctors, nurses and staff who literally kept her alive beyond any expectations.
Sheila is survived by her husband of 45 years, Les Bebchick; daughters Rachel Naggar of Livingston, NJ and Lisa Bebchick-Beim of New York City; son-in-laws, Eric Naggar and Zachary Beim; grandchildren Mia Naggar, Gabriel Naggar, Elijah Beim, and Isabel Beim; sister Paula Tigar of Boston and Bella Om of Deal, NJ.
