Sherna Ray Katz

Sherna Ray Katz of Newton died October 2, 2016 after a long and courageous 17-year battle with breast cancer. She leaves her loving husband of 34 years, John A. Shea, and her twin sister Sheila Tempelmann of St. Petersburg, FL and Harwich; also her other sisters Arlene Mattison & husband Hugh of Brookline, Sandra Stein of Scottsdale, AZ, and brother Marvin & his wife Shirley of Skokie, IL.

Born in Boston’s West End, she graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School in 1956 and Boston University in 1961. She worked as a social worker for many years with the Massachusetts Welfare Department. She also leaves her dear stepchildren Christopher, Anthony, and Jonathan Shea; nieces Lauren Mattison and Erica Mattison and nephew Harry Mattison & his wife Melissa of Boston; and David Stein & his wife Carole of Culver City, CA and niece Brenda Haskel & her husband Baruch of Israel.

Services will be held in the chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA on Wednesday, October 5 at 2:00pm, with burial following.

A celebration of her life will be held at her late residence on Thursday, October 6 from 2-4:00pm and 7-9:00pm.

The month of October has been designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Donations in her name may be made to City of Hope, PO Box 60409, Los Angeles, CA 90060-0409.
