
The beloved wife of Andrew A. Rubin, she was the devoted mother of Hanna Lee Rubin, also of Brookline. While her mother lay in the hospital, Hanna became engaged to Yitzy Abramowitz, of Brighton, son of Rabbi Jack and Alana Abramowitz of Far Rockaway, NY. Mrs. Rubin was also the sister of Patty Margolis and her husband Danny of Brookline, and Michael Horelly, of Los Angeles.
Mrs. Rubin was dedicated to the Jewish community, serving as a teacher, group leader, and in administrative support positions for four decades. Over her lifetime, she served in institutions and programs spanning the entire ideological spectrum of the American Jewish Community. During five years as a “Navy wife”, Susan led Jewish youth groups, taught Hebrew and was a volunteer lay leader in Yokohama and Yokosuka, Japan, where her husband was serving. Upon their return to the States, she taught in Reform and Conservative religious schools in Williamsport, PA, Pittsfield, MA, Lexington, Cambridge, Needham, Brookline, and Boston. For the last several years she was on the faculty of Temple Beth Am, in Framingham.
Since 2000, Mrs. Rubin worked at the JCC of Greater Boston in administrative roles in Grossman Camp and as a coordinator of the center’s Senior Lunch program. She also held administrative positions at Maimonides School for thirteen years and served as Coordinator of the Keshet Teacher Resource Center and in various teacher assistant roles at the Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston, Newton. In addition to her teaching, she recently began a new job at ROFEH, a program of the Bostoner Rebbe.
As a volunteer, Mrs. Rubin took on major projects at Kehillath Israel, Brookline, and lately at Congregation Kadimah-Toras Moshe, in Brighton.
Funeral services were held at the Levine Chapel, 470 Harvard Street, Brookline, on Sunday, May 20. Interment followed at the Ahavath Sholem Cemetery, Pittsfield. Shivah was held at her late residence.
