
Sylvia Phillips, 83, beloved daughter, mother, and grandmother, passed away on February 14, 2015, with her family at her side. She was a long-time resident of Braintree, where she was a member of Temple B’Nai Shalom. More recently, she was a resident of the Simon C. Fireman Community of Randolph. Sylvia was born August 31, 1931 in Boston to the late David & Rose Gulkin. She was the loving sister of Marian Mason of Boynton Beach, Florida, the late Eleanor Litchman of North Bellmore, New York and the late Dr. Theodore Gulkin of Dudley, MA. A graduate of the Beth Israel School of Nursing, Sylvia was a gifted registered nurse. Throughout her nursing career, she displayed a strong work ethic, and was known for the superb care she provided to her patients. A devoted mother, she is survived by her four children: David Phillips of Braintree; Elisa Phillips of Raleigh, North Carolina; Deborah Phillips and her husband Richard Lawson of Hull; and Dr. Pamela Phillips and her husband Dr. Manuel Hierro of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Sylvia is, in addition, survived by her granddaughter, Sydney Rose Lawson. A proud grandmother, Sylvia thought the world of her granddaughter. Services at the Chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon on Thursday, February 19 at 2:00pm. Following the burial, the family will receive visitors at Sylvia’s apartment until 7:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
