The family of Willard S. Kahn, MD mourn his passing. He died in the early morning hours of April 18, 2020. His death was caused by complications following infection with the Covid-19 virus. Because of emergency universal precautions to slow transmission of the disease, his family were separated from him during his illness and at the time of his death. During his illness, he was cared for by the expert and loving staff of the Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Brighton Massachusetts. His family is forever grateful for their care.
Dr. Kahn loved his family. He loved his profession. He loved life. He was a deeply kind man who chose to practice the medical specialty of psychiatry. He connected with others, and he always wanted to help. He cared about the Earth, social justice, and making the world a better place for all people. He made that happen – he helped so many heal and live fully.
His nickname was Bill. That's how all his friends and family knew him. That's how people he connected with in recovery from substance abuse knew him. Bill brought every bit of kindness, intelligence, and care to his own recovery that he brought to the practice of medicine. As his family, some of us had the privilege to meet others who were in that journey together with Bill. We heard people whom we had never met tell him he helped them survive, and then to thrive. We heard people say he helped save their lives. His honesty and openness about living sober helped so many of us understand through his example how healing is possible.
Beloved son of the late Dorothy (Greenfogel) and Sol Kahn. Devoted father of Joel Jack Kahn and his wife Martha Cuevas Kahn, Jason Ward Kahn, Dossie Finley Kahn and her husband Patrick Singleton. Adored grandfather of Deray Castillo Cuevas, May Finley Singleton-Kahn, and Gloria Evans Singleton-
Kahn. Dear brother of Aron Jay “Ronnie” Kahn and the late Marilyn Rita Seplow and her husband
Richard. Loving uncle of Ellen Kahn, Ann Kahn, Philip Austin Seplow and the late Andrew Jay
Seplow. His death is mourned by many other loving family members and friends. Throughout his life, Bill delighted in his family. He loved dearly the family he grew up within, and the generations that followed.
