Manicone, Andrew Sr. on February 9, 2018. Beloved husband of 44 years to Rose Anne. Loving father of Andrew Jr. and Robert. Andy was a proud disabled veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War 1967-1969. He spent most of his life championing the causes of veterans everywhere. He was especially active in Ft. Hamilton, where he helped organize the annual Children's Holiday Party. Andy would seek contributions of food, gifts and donations that would make the party very successful. He would spend countless hours to obtain these donations to make it possible for the children of active military families to have a memorable Christmas.
Many organizations, such as the Kings Plaza-Canarsie Kiwanis, St. Bernard's Knights of Columbus, Brooklyn-Staten Island Chapter of UNICO, St. Leo Holy Name Society, all benefitted from Andy's presence. His tireless devotion to these organizations helped make them thrive.
Andy was a long time member and past-president of the Kings Plaza-Canarsie Kiwanis club for 5 years where, along with his club, raised a great amount of funds that all went back to the community, assisting children and others in need. Three of the five years as president, Andy was a distinguished president. He also served the Brooklyn Division of Kiwanis as Lieutenant Governor 2009-2010. He enjoyed attending the conferences and conventions and mingling with his many friends he has made through his years of Kiwanis devotion. Andy was selected by his club to be the recipient of a Kaiser Award in recognition of his exemplary service.
One of Andy's most-loved position was past-commander of the American Legion Victor Allegretti Post 1872, named after his friend, Victor Allegretti. As a Disabled American Veteran, Andy held a special affinity for the Legion. He was also a member of the American Legion Baseball Committee.
Everyone who met Andy agrees that he was such an easy-going guy and made friends everywhere he went. He was a fun person to be around and loved having a great time. He will be missed by all that had the pleasure to know him.
