November 28, 1930 – June 15, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Anna Schiano of Brooklyn, NY. A devoted daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Anna passed peacefully into eternal life on Sunday morning, June 15, 2025, at the age of 94—just five months shy of her 95th birthday.
Anna was the cherished wife of the late Salvatore Schiano (1927–2004), with whom she shared 39 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three loving children: Louis (with his wife Susanne), Joseph (with his wife Carol), and Carmela (Lina).
She was the proud and devoted grandmother (“Nonna”) of five grandchildren who brought immense joy and pride to her life: Anthony (and his fiancée Aashna), Robert, Nicholas, Matthew, and John.
Born on the picturesque island of Ischia in Naples, Italy, on November 28, 1930, Anna was the eldest daughter of Adolarata Di Costanzo and Giuseppe Conte. In Italy, she worked as a kindergarten teacher throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, lovingly educating the children of her hometown.
In October 1961, seeking a brighter future, Anna immigrated to the United States aboard the SS Cristoforo Colombo. She initially worked as a seamstress before meeting the love of her life, Salvatore. The two married in March 1965 and soon welcomed their children: Louis (1965), Joseph (1967), and Lina (1970).
Anna had a lovely sense of humor. She had a way of keeping things light and loving, reminding her family not to take life too seriously.
A devout Catholic and the heart of her family, Anna was deeply rooted in her faith and community. She was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church for over 50 years. Her home was always filled with warmth—delicious meals, family gatherings, and a love that radiated from her gentle presence. Anna was the spirit of every holiday, milestone, and celebration.
Anna’s strength, patience, and unwavering love shaped the lives of everyone around her. She was the family’s anchor and “consigliere”—always ready with a listening ear and heartfelt advice. She had a quick wit, a generous spirit, and a deep devotion to prayer, especially to Saint Padre Pio, whose portrait was hung immediately above her seat at her dining room table.
Most recently, toward the end of her time with us on earth, Anna expressed deep appreciation for the love and presence of her family. She was especially grateful for the gracious and devoted care provided by her daughter Lina during her final years.
Anna will be remembered always as a true matriarch—gentle, faithful, selfless—and a guiding light for all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and community. She is now our angel, watching over us with the same love and care she gave so freely in life.
