Connie passed on at dawn on Monday, January 15th
A visitation for Connie will be held Saturday Jan 20 and also Sunday Jan 21, 2024 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Joseph G. Duffy, 255 Ninth Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215. Connie’s Memorial Service will begin at 4pm at the Duffy Funeral Home .
Wife of Tom Keough, loving mother of Luke and grandmother of Thia Rose and Zephyr. Connie was a passionate humanist and peace activist, award-winning poet, talented folk-singer and guitarist, and an inspirational teacher of hundreds of kindergarten and first and second grade children at P.S. 321, Park Slope for 31 years. After retiring she continued to work part time and also volunteer, sharing the joy and importance of singing with children and teachers at P.S. 10 until 2020 and the lockdown. Her family is proud of the fact that she worked full time and then part time for over 50 years for the NY public schools. She was very dedicated to helping and educating children. She has sent funds to schools in Uganda and other impoverished areas . She has always been especially worried about children suffering in war torn areas. She has spent much of her life being been very dedicated to lobbying to end the many wars of the past 60 years and trying to help the children and their families.
Connie was born in Bay Ridge and has lived in Park Slope since PS 321 was opened in 1967. She began there the second year it was opened.
She has also enjoyed spending much time in the Catskills in Woodland Valley Park which is part of the Shandaken Township in Ulster county. She was a well loved part of that community and she has been warmly welcomed into the community Mt Pleasant Rural Cemetery. Cemeteries that far north can’t bury during the winter since the ground is too frozen. She will be buried in the spring. Burial service information will be announced by Tom at that time .
Although her family and friends will miss her greatly, the legacy she leaves will stay with us forever.
