Edith was born in Morehead City, North Carolina and attended local schools. She graduated from Carteret County High School and received B.A. and M.S. in Public Health from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. In the 1970’s, she and her then-husband, John Foley, moved to lower Manhattan and lived in the South Street Seaport. In the 90’s, Edith moved to Park Slope where she was part of her co-op community for 30 years.
Edith worked for over 40 years in healthcare administration for the City of New York Health and Hospitals Corporation. A passionate gardener, she was an enthusiastic longtime volunteer and supporter of the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. She was a creative knitter, a strong swimmer and an adventurous scuba diver, travelling to both Atlantic and Pacific Ocean dive sites. She loved music and danced with abandon. Playtime with her cat, Gizmo, brought special delight.
Edith was preceded in death by her mother, Rosalie Bell Murdoch, and her father, Ramie Willard Davis. Though she had no immediate surviving family, Edith leaves behind a cherished circle of friends and cousins who will deeply miss her kindness and generosity, and the joy she brought to our lives.
A celebration of life will be announced in the Spring.
