

Elsa Preudhomme Constable was born October 30, 1935 in Gouyave, Grenada, W.I. to Dora and Reginald Preudhomme. After the death of her Father at age 5 she stayed in Gouyave with her brother George Leslie and her sister Shirley in care of her Mothers Godmother, Ethel Ferguson. At age 7 she went to Trinidad to join her Mother who was living and working on the island. She attended St. Joseph’s Convent School while living in Trinidad. She arrived in New York with her Mother at age 9. She lived in the Bronx until her marriage to Guy Constable.
After graduating from Jane Addams High School, she attended the Nursing School at the Harlem YWCA, which was affiliated with Harlem Hospital. After graduation, Elsa became a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at Brooklyn Jewish Hospital until the birth of her son Darren. She very much enjoyed living in Park Slope, Brooklyn and lived the rest of her life there. A few years later her daughter Lisa was born. Elsa next worked at Samaritan Hospital in Park Slope 17 yrs. Until it closed, after which she worked at Madonna Residence on Prospect Park West for 15 years. Those were her happiest working years, as she enjoyed her time working with the elderly very much. She was awarded Employee of the Month three times and Employee of the year in 1986. She retired early in 1993 due to back problems. Shew was blessed with a granddaughter, Darren’s daughter, Brittney West with whom she shared cherished moments.
Elsa was fortunate to have enjoyed traveling in the United States and many other parts of the world with her husband and also with friends and family after Guy’s passing in 1988. She always thought of herself as being a very blessed person. Elsa was blessed with a wonderful husband, with two loving and caring children, with a number of lifelong friends who she knew since her elementary and high school days in the Bronx, with a community of great friends and neighbors and with a life of love, happiness and joy. Elsa was a Roman Catholic who embraced her faith and lived her life caring for others whose paths she crossed.
