James J. West

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Joseph West on January 4, 2025 , at the age of 96. James was born in Brooklyn NY on August 5, 1928 , to James Joseph West Sr (Cork Ireland) and Helen Thatford .

James met the love of his life and childhood sweet heart Ann Marie Pankow and became his beloved wife, of 73 years. Ann was known for her strong will, unwavering determination, and love and support for her family .

James retired from the NYC Police Department with 20 years of service. He was also retired from the US Navy with 20 years of service with a National Defense Service Medal. James continued his work ethics until the age of 80 when he retired permanently to travel.

Preceded in death by wife Ann West and son James J West jr.

Survived by son Michael P West; daughters Christine (Gilligan) West and Colleen A West; Son In law Sean M Gilligan and Alan C MacPherson; Grandchildren Paul West, Nicole West, Kelley Knapp , Zachary Gilligan, Shannon West, Michael West and James M West; and Great Grandchildren Erin, Blake and Liam.

A service will be held at a later time at LI National Cemetery.
