

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Deacon John Flannery, who departed this life on February 8th, 2026, at the age of 93. Deacon Flannery was a devoted servant of God, beloved brother, uncle and friend.
Born on July 31, 1932, in Brooklyn, Deacon Flannery dedicated his life to faith, family, and service. He was ordained as a Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church over 50 years ago, serving faithfully at Holy Family St Thomas Aquinas, Brooklyn for many years.
Deacon Flannery was known for his compassion, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to his ministry. He touched the lives of many through his teaching, counseling, liturgical service, always embodying Christ’s love and humility.
In 1952, during the Korean War, Deacon Flannery enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a teletype communication specialist at a radar station in North Korea. He was very proud of his Military service.
He is survived by his loving Sister Barbara Tennyson, Nieces Patricia (Mike) Campbell, Barbara (Sal) Casciotta, Alice (Jason) DelPrete & Shannon Tennyson, Nephews Kevin (Carolyn) Flannery, Tom (Marianne) Crossan, Terry (Lorriane) Crossan, Christopher Crossan and Danny Tennyson; and many Great Nieces & Great Nephews, and a host of parishioners and friends who will cherish his memory.
Deacon Flannery was preceded in death by his parents Alfred & Alice, brother Tom (Rose) Flannery, sister Alice (Tom) Crossan & Brother in-law Al “Butch” Tennyson.
Visitation will be held at Duffy’s Funeral Home, 255 9th St., Brooklyn NY on Monday, February 16th 3:00pm – 7:00pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family St Thomas Aquinas, 249 9th St. Brooklyn on Tuesday, February 17th @ 10:00am
Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale.
