John T. (Thomas) Joyce, aka Jack Joyce, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, May 26th, 2020 at the age of 89. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 7, 1931, the son of John Sr. and Ann (Gillooly). He lost his mother at the age of 12, which impacted his life significantly. He attended Holy Name of Jesus Grammar School and St. Michael’s High School also in Brooklyn NY. He was smart, modest and pragmatic.
Jack was an avid baseball player and fan who frequented Ebbett’s Field to watch Brooklyn Dodgers games after school when he was young. His favorite player was Pete Reiser. He could tell you many stories about baseball and he certainly knew his game. Before being drafted into the US Army, the Boston Red Sox was considering him for their team. However, Jack was sent to Germany where he was serviced in1952.
Before leaving he married the pretty and tasteful, Frances Bialek (now deceased) who lived nearby. They had two children Stephen and Nancy (now Mooney). Later, his grandson, also Stephen Joyce, became a momentous addition to his life.
A good family provider, John worked as a margins clerk and supervisor for various Wall St. brokerage firms. He was always loyal to his family first. He took upon responsibility to take care of others in his family as well. He had a finesse of getting important things done for them when life gave them a jolt.
Jack would stick up for the underdog and was also pragmatic with their external difficulties. He was a devoted family man. (He once got off the subway while going to work in order to rescue the family cat who couldn’t get down from a steep, slate roof.) He liked history, to read, solve crossword puzzles and watch clever humorous or detective shows and sports on TV. He liked the movie “Once Upon A Time in America” and the song “Gentle On My Mind” sung by Eddie Arnold.
Our Dad, Jack, was a good man and we will miss him greatly.

God bless Mr. Joyce in Heaven.
Mr. J would take his son and me to Yankee games. A great man.
