Mike showed me his skill at lighting a fire when we had to pull our canoe onto land to get out of pouring rain on our senior trip at the Venard. He gathered some kindling and used his pipe lighter while carefully blowing to get a small fire started to keep us warm. Then he promptly loaded his pipe and puffed in satisfaction. I just took the pictures!

Mike was the best neighbor you could have. Deer Run Road will not be the same without your smile, friendship and genuine joy of your surroundings. This memory is of our Christmas Caroling during Covid. We gathered the neighborhood ranks and went house to house with laughter, drinks, singing Carols and bonding. We will miss you Mike.

My condolences to Julia and family and friends. Michael was a wonderful faculty member and friend at Saint Michael Academy.

We had just bought a cabin on this little dead end dirt road in PA and as I drove down the road another car came from the opposite direction. So of course we stopped and asked each other where we were from? “Oh, NYC. Me too, where? Brooklyn. Oh, me too, where in Brooklyn? Park Slope. Oh! Where in Park Slope? On Bergen Street. OMG, so do we!” And so started our friendship with Mike and Julia - across the street in Brooklyn and next door on this tiny road in PA! Ever since Mike and Julia have been a source of loving friendship, with long, strong hugs of greeting; wonderful wide ranging conversations from theology to politics to  activism in Central America; to delicious dinners on each other’s porches. We even held a “paranda “ during COVID going from house to house singing Christmas Carols. Mike has particularly been for me a source for reconnecting to my spiritual and contemplative side. Thank you, Mike, for your loving embraces.

My sincerest apologies to the family during this hard time.

Mr. McComiskey in 180 days transformed the way I looked at The Bible, taught me about meditation and about how to attract the life that I want to myself. I will truly never forget the hours I logged in his Religion class.

Over the years, I have always thought how little he knows of the effect he had on me, but I share that gratitude and pay it forward with my own students every day.

May he rest in eternal peace.

Mike was my dear neighbor in the Poconos. Before I even officially moved in, Mike came to Visit me in the hospital when I had my daughter. 

Some of my favorite memories were our neighborhood get together during COVID-19 and our social distance parties on our road. 

My daughter, loved Mike like a grandpa and always enjoyed running over to Mike and Julia’s house to make cookies or hunt for bugs 

Mike will be missed dearly

He was one of my favorite teachers at SMA.
