

She became a registered professional nurse in 1971, and later a Head Nurse, Clinician Supervisor and Program Director of Inpatient Services - Acute Care Addictions Program (ACAP) at Coney Island Hospital. Miriam worked for the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) for 34 years. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph's College in 1985.
After retiring in 2005, she continued serving as the President of the Coney Island Hospital Auxiliary Program. Miriam took pride in helping others and provided respectful care to everyone regardless of diagnosis during her nursing career. Miriam’s pride and joy was also her family. She spent her summers at Silver Gull Beach Club with her daughter and grandson and vacationing at the Elms Waterfront Cottages in Lake Luzerne, NY.
Miriam is survived by her sisters Rosemary Abell and Virginia Williamson, her daughter Jo Anne Cummings and grandson Michael Garay, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Margaret Beyers and sisters Elizabeth Fisher, Helen Stevens, and Margaret Summers.
A visitation for Miriam was held Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at John J. Healey Funeral Home. A funeral mass will occur today Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church, 2609 E 19 Street, Brooklyn, NY 11235. An interment will occur Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 11:15 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Mary's Cemetery, 155 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305.
